The fourth edition of Kirby's Hats is here! I felt as though the polulation of female characters in the Smash Bros. milieu is pretty low (a 1:4 character ratio). This time, I've decided to give more female characters their time in the spotlight. The official title of this piece is "SSBB Kirby's Hat's 4th Edition- Femme Fatales."

You probably already knew this, but I'm still going to offer this disclaimer:

AS FAR AS I KNOW, NONE OF THESE CHARACTERS (AS OF TODAY, 7/3/06) HAVE BEEN CONFIRMED AS PLAYABLE IN SUPER SMASH BROS. BRAWL. THEY ARE ALL WISHFUL THINKING ON MY BEHALF.

That being said, let us proceed with the roster:

Krystal: The third Star Fox character, Krystal is the newest member of the Star Fox team. She can use her telepathy to sense the presences of others, and she uses this skill while in the air to sense enemy pilots.

Even though Krystal is a certified Star Fox pilot, her defining appearance was in Star Fox Adventures, so I think that she'd play like she did in Star Fox Adventures. She could use her staff to attack as well as use special moves.

Lily Flyer: Another F-Zero pilot! This time, it's Lily Flyer, the innocent-looking, teenage military girl. Lily pilots the Bunny Flash, an F-Zero war machine guised by a delicate white-and-pink shell.

My feeling is that Lily Flyer could play like a "Luigified*" Captain Falcon. She'd have one or two different moves, plus she'd be lighter and faster than him. Think about it: a character who is already very fast, made even faster?! In the right hands, Lily Flyer could dominate the entire competition!

As F-Zero pilots go, Lily Flyer is a personal preference of mine. Unfortunately, she would, in the hypothetical event that a female F-Zero pilot becomes added to the Brawl cast, be cast aside in favor of either Jody Summer or Princia Ramode. Personally, I like neither Jody nor Princia. Jody always struck me as rather rigid and uninteresting, and Princia just looks too silly to be taken seriously (and the silliness margin in the current cast of Brawl is pretty wide).

Still haven't found a good idea for a neutral F-Zero logo, though, so Lily Flyer's stuck with the Falcon insignia. ^^; If anyone has any suggestions, please offer them!

Alexandra Roivas: Another favorite of mine, Alex Roivas is the main character of Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. Alex is charged with learning of the history of the Ancients and destroying a specific one, depending on the path you chose at the beginning of the game.

As for her attacks, they could revolve around using Rune Magicks. As for the alignment of said Magickal moves, it could vary with her costume color. If she's wearing her standard costume, her Magickal attacks would align with Mantorok; her Red Team costume would align her attacks with Chattur'gha; her Blue Team costume would align her attacks with Ulyaoth; her Green Team costume would align her attacks with Xel'lotath. Of course, the statistics of the attacks would stay the same per costume, seeing as how people would complain about being a specific team color because they wanted certain attack bonuses. Plus, the Magickal attacks wouldn't take as much time to cast in Brawl as they do in Eternal Darkness.

For her logo, I decided to go with the Mantorok rune because Mantorok was the only Ancient in Eternal Darkness that wasn't out to destroy the world and recreate it in their image. Instead, Mantorok played the other three Ancients against each other, let them destroy themselves in separate timelines, and connected the three timelines so that all three were defeated by each other simultaneously (:O_o:kind of a mind-boggler, but it gets easier to understand if you've played the game).

Jill: Sort of a request from :iconbunyipflip:, Jill is the main character from Drill Dozer. Jill is a member of the thievery/excavation crew known as the Red Dozers, and throughout the game, Drill Dozer, she must use her machine (which shares the same name as the game) to defeat the Skulker gang and retrieve her mother's Red Diamond.

In Brawl, Jill could pilot the Drill Dozer and use its powers to triumph over her opponents. Since she'd be riding in this weighty machine, Jill would be classified as a heavy character.

Tetra: The head of a group of pirates in The Legend of Zelda: the Wind Waker. Tetra is, unbeknownst to her, the reincarnation of Princess Zelda, and she and Link must destroy Ganondorf to keep Hyrule under the seas and keep Ganondorf from controlling it.

Like Shiek, Tetra has no moveset at all, though she could transform into a younger version of Zelda from Super Smash Bros. Melee. This Young Zelda could be a "Luigified*" clone of Zelda. As for Tetra, the sky's the limit for her moveset.

Lyndis: A character in the first Fire Emblem game for the Game boy Advance, Lyndis is the first female in the Fire Emblem series of the Lord class. She wields a legendary sword known as Mani Katti, and fights alongside a warrior known as Eliwood to prevent a group known as Black Fang from invading Caelin.

Lyndis is Brawl could be a Marth/Roy clone, or she could have a moveset all her own. Since her Mani Katti blade has a high chance of dealing critical hits, her damage dealt could vary greatly per attack, and she could certainly have some interesting moves.

And this edition's Third-Party Pick is...

Marina: a bit of an obscure pic, if I do say so myself. Marina is the main character of Mischief Makers for the Nintendo 64. She is charged with rescuing her creator, Professor Theo, from an organization known as the Empire.

Since Marina's moveset in Mischief Makers (I love alliteration so very very much :D) is rather stale (mainly boosting and grabbing things), she could be given a couple of new attacks to round out her character.

Marina is a third-party character... kind of. Mischief Makers was published by both Nintendo and Enix (before merging with Square) and developed by Treasure, so the answer to whether or not Mischief Makers is considered a third-party game is rather up in the air. The point is, she's a relatively good idea for a character, and in the end, that's all that really matters.

For other third-party character ideas, I was considering Meryl from Metal Gear Solid as a "Luigified*" clone of Snake. Since I didn't know how Snake played, creating a clone of him was out of the question.

For the next (and possibly final) edition of Kirby's Hats, which will also have seven Kirbys rather than six, I'm not sure if there will be an actual theme per se, but rest assured, it'll be good. Plus, there will be more third-party characters than usual this time around!

Next up: SSBB Kirby's Hat's 5th Edition- Third-Party Bonanza!...or something...

* For those of you who don't know, the term "Luigified" is a Smash Bros. term meaning "modified from a clone of another character." The etymology behind this term is the fact that in the original N64 Super Smash Bros., Luigi was basically a clone of Mario. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Luigi's moveset had been redone (his B + Forward move differed from Mario's, as well as some of his A attacks). He had been modified from the clone that he once was, hence "Luigification."
