Description

Mewtwo takes the Brawl stage! With his incredible psychic powers, it's safe to say that he's quite a battler.

This creature is, quite possibly, the most powerful Pokémon in the world. As such, it is unwise to get on his bad side...

NAME: Mewtwo
FIRST APPEARANCE: Pokémon Red/Blue (Game Boy, 1996)
SERIES: Pokémon
LOGO: Poké Ball

----------------

A character in desperate need of revamping, it's pretty highly-agreed that Mewtwo was a rather odd duck in Melee. Big and slow, but unusually light in weight despite those statistics, with special moves that didn't work unless certain conditions were frustratingly exact. It can be quite difficult to play as Mewtwo without becoming aggravated.

This needs to change if Mewtwo has any chance of being re-introduced to the Smash scene.

For starters, Mewtwo needs to be either heavier or faster than he already is. I personally vote for a combination of the two, evening out Mewtwo stat-wise.

And his Special Moves needed altering, too.

In Melee, the Shadow Ball was entirely too wobbly after being fired. It swerved all over the place, often times missing the target entirely. That's why, in Brawl, I'd decrease this quality, giving it a straighter trajectory. The Shadow Ball would still be somewhat wobbly, but not as much as it used to be.

Teleport was an excellent way to get out of a tight situation, but the range needed fixing, so I merely extended it. Pretty simple fix, really.

For Disable, I just scrapped the move entirely, replacing it with Recover. As expected, Recover heals damage accrued over the course of a battle, but the move works rather slowly, as not to seem overtly cheap. Think about 1% of damage healed every half-second or so.

Confusion was a tricky move to master back in Melee, mainly because it did little damage, left Mewtwo open to attack, and only deflected projectiles about half the time. This needed changing, so I would have altered the timing of the move in order to increase its functionality on the field. Also, it would be a bit more damaging.

Mewtwo's Final Smash was a bit difficult. I had planned on merely transplanting Giga Impact from my botched Deoxys Profile (botched when Deoxys became a Poké Ball Pokémon), but it seemed uncharacteristic for Mewtwo to use such a move. He needed something relating to his psychic skills, so why not one of the most powerful psychic attacks, aptly named as such? The solution was right in front of my nose, but I just didn't see it.

When Psychic is used, Mewtwo fires psychic waves in a radial aura around his body. These waves do heavy damage to any character within range, and the waves travel a pretty decent distance.

For his pose, I was going to go for a traditional sort of evil, menacing pose for Mewtwo, but the sketch didn't turn out like I had hoped. The sketch I did for the final picture was intended to display a side of Mewtwo not known by too many people. It's a deeper, more pensive side that is difficult for some to see. I expressed this side of Mewtwo by drawing him seemingly looking to the stars, pondering his existence as all of us have done at some time or another.

It just seemed better.

Note that, although Mewtwo is technically genderless, I find it easier to refer to Mewtwo as a "he" when it comes to personal pronouns. Just about everybody else does it, too.

Also, I'm not doing any Pokémon characters after this. Counting both the confirmed Pokémon characters (Pikachu and the Pokémon Trainer) as well as the three Profile Pokémon I've made (Lucario, Jigglypuff, and Mewtwo), I think five Pokémon character slots are enough.

And Pichu's as good as gone. But I think everyone already knew that. ;)

Newcomer is up next. Most likely a third-party one, too!

Update: As of today (7/30/09), the text in this profile has been updated with Justified Left alignment, making the text a little cleaner when confined to boxes. Also, some move descriptions have been changed to better fit the new alignment.
